How to Play
In Basilika you build two things: your deck, and the battlefield itself, laid tile by tile. Then you outmaneuver your opponent across it to capture their King. Here's how a game flows.
Playing Cards
Cards cost Actions, Discards, or a piece's HP; paying HP isn't damage. See Card Types.
Tiles
Play a tile into an open space next to a tile that stems from your Archetype. Once played, it belongs to the Board: any piece standing on it can use its effects. Learn the card symbols and keywords.
Pay Actions, Discard, or Piece HP to Play Tiles
Choose a card. Pay its cost in Actions, Discards, or a piece’s HP.
- Creating Pieces
- A Create effect brings a piece in from your reserves, onto an open square next to your King.
- Summoning Pieces
- A Summon effect brings a piece in from your reserves, at the center of the tile that called for it.
- Placing Walls
- Pieces can't move onto or through a Wall's square, though a Knight's Jump passes over it. Walls can't go on Archetype tiles or on a tile with a King.
Modifiers
Modifiers attach to Class Cards to change how a Piece Type behaves. Each Class has 3 slots, and you can play a Modifier on any player's Classes, but never on Kings. See Modifiers.
Each Modifier lists the pieces it can go on and the slots it takes. Pay its cost and play it behind a Class with room for it.
Play Modifiers on your Classes
Choose a Modifier from your hand, then a Class to play it behind.
Every detail is in the Rules: Card Types.
