Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about Basilika. Expand a question to read its answer.

Basilika is a tactical strategy game that plays first and foremost as a card game: you build a deck around a single Archetype and use unique tile cards to construct the board's landscape fresh every match. It is played on a 7x7 board (2-4 players), a 5x5 Blitz board (2 players), a 3x3 Super Blitz board (2 players), or any custom shape (up to 100). You are a Historian, and every match you play uncovers the layered history of the world of Somnexa, and it was never random.

Start with the How to Play guide for the core loop, then use the Rules reference for authoritative detail. To play, build a deck that stems from one Archetype (50-60 cards for a 7x7 game, 40-50 for a 6x6, 30-40 for a 5x5 Blitz, 20-25 for a 4x4, 15-20 for a 3x3 Super Blitz, with no Modifiers on 3x3 or 4x4) and choose a Class for each Piece Type. At the table you place your Archetype tiles in opposite corners, set your King and Retinue, draw 6 cards, and may Mulligan up to 4.

First select a single Archetype tile; it is always your first tile, and every tile you play must stem from it. Tiles make up the bulk of the deck, alongside Modifiers that attach to your Class cards and the Class cards for each Piece Type. Deck size is set by the board: 50-60 cards for a standard 7x7 game, 40-50 for a 6x6 game, 30-40 for a Blitz 5x5 game, 20-25 for a 4x4 game, and 15-20 for a Super Blitz 3x3 game. Decks for 3x3 and 4x4 games hold no Modifiers. Every tile and modifier is a unique card with no duplicates (alternate-art variants count as unique). An in-browser Deckbuilder tool is planned as a future feature.
