Basilika Roadmap: Post 1

Prototype tiles laid out as a board mid-game, with hand-drawn patterns and red and blue dice as pieces

As work continues on the game, I am about 2 to 3 weeks from a second reprint of cards.

This will be the first printing of individual cards with printed text and set tile patterns. The prototype print was a single empty card design with entirely hand-written & hand drawn patterns / effects. I can say that I’m rather excited for this printing, because it feels like a step into having a completed, publishable game.

Lots and lots of play-testing needs to take place before I’m confident that the game is ready for mass production.

With official rules to follow soon, here is the gist of the game:

Basilika is essentially an amalgam of simple systems.

At its base, it's a TCG. Your strategy will be determined by your 'King Card' and how you build your deck around its effects.

As the game progresses, cards are played as tiles on the board, creating a landscape for your pieces to navigate. A normal game between 2 players will take place on a 7x7 board, allowing 48 spaces (purposefully excluding the middle) for Tiles to be placed.

This limits the number of cards played in any single game, and creates a demand for intelligent placement of your Tiles. Once your Tiles become part of the board, however, they belong to everyone. This means your opponents can benefit from any active effects from your tiles, just as you would.

Pieces that are moved about the board are represented by different types of dice, each corresponding to Chess Pieces. These Pieces are your main source of interaction, with a D20 acting as your King.

Players take turns with a set number of actions each turn, with the goal of capturing their opponent's King or occupying the Opponent's King Card.

With the systems in play, and some still in development, I believe Basilika will have a very high level of strategy and player expression.

Time will tell.

More to come....
